During our Healthy Lifestyles theme week, KS1 have be looking at ways to stay healthy by reading a series of books based on well-known fairy-tales.

We have read: Get Some Rest Sleeping Beauty; Keep Running Gingerbread Man; Snow White and the Very Angry Dwarf; Eat Your Greens Goldilocks; and Blow Your Nose Big Bad Wolf.

In year 1: As scientists, we explored the importance of keeping clean, how we should wash our hands and how germs spread. We carried out a glitter experiment where we shook hands with others and saw how the glitter spread (just like germs!). We also looked at what a healthy lunch would look like and created a healthy choices paper plate.

As writers, we wrote a set of instructions on how to wash our hands. We then performed it to create a ‘how to wash your hands’ advert.

As sports-people, we looked at how doing enough exercise helps us to lead a healthy lifestyle and explored easy ways that we can take part in exercise.

As artists, we did observational drawings of some different fruits and vegetables.

In year 2: As scientists, we explored the importance of sleep, how much we should get and ways to help us get to sleep. We conducted a mini sleep study and recorded how much sleep we get a night and how this makes us feel.

As writers, we wrote a diary entry as mountaineer Junko Tabei and we described her experience of climbing Mount Everest and the healthy options she took to prepare for it.

As sports-people, we looked at how taking enough exercise helps us to lead a healthy lifestyle and explored easy ways that we can take part in exercise.

As PSHE leaders, we explored feelings and focused on the feeling of anger. We found out what anger looks like and how our bodies react. We also explored ways to help us to regulate when we are feeling angry and show empathy to others when they struggle.
