School Council
Welcome to Rise Park’s School Council page. Our School Council representatives are elected by their class to speak on their behalf during discussions that have an impact on the whole school. They act as a link, feeding back key information to their peers after meetings. The school council discuss and organise items such as charity events and the school newspaper along with on-going issues brought up by individual class representatives. Each class from Year 1 and Year 6 has an elected School Council Representative.
School Council Job Description
We are very proud to announce the new school council representatives for the academic year 2025/2026

The School Council 2025-2026
In line with our passion to strengthen links with our local community the School Council invited our local Member of Parliament into school- Alex Norris. During this meeting, we shared with him the Powerpoint presentation that we had spent preparing in the weeks leading up to his visit. We took some time to reflect on the special aspects we wanted to celebrate about our community and shared this with him. This meeting also gave us the opportunity to share with him our views on the things that we would like to amend in the community such as litter, a rundown subway and a new purpose for the redundant Community Centre. We are awaiting some feedback from Mr Norris to see whether he could perhaps help us to implement some of our suggestions to help improve the area of Rise Park.
We continue to meet regularly as a team to reflect on how changes can be actioned to help students across Rise Park Primary. Some of these ideas included involving our parents and carers with some Art work that could be displayed in school and hosting an afternoon tea for our grandparents who may value some time connected together.
This term we have also refurbished our notice board with the intention of keeping the school updates with our current hard work and it also gives children the opportunity to have their say.
The School Council 2024 – 2025
This year had some great things in store with such a proactive, innovative and resilient team working hard behind the scenes to plan and deliver a range of ideas to help others around them.
Each year here at Rise Park, we start the year off thinking carefully about what we want to achieve by the end of the year as a team. We all agreed that becoming more active in our community was something that we all felt passionate about. The main reasons being that not only does this give ourselves the chance to help others but it also impacts positively on our own wellbeing and mental health.
One of our main roles here at school is to organise fundraising events such as Children in Need and Comic Relief. We are keen to meet regularly, to discuss different ways to make the day fun for all as well as raising money for a great cause. Our latest BBC Children in Need event was again linked to the community whereby each class designed something which could be installed to improve an area of our community. Year 4 were the overall winners with their bird feeders which were installed in the immediate area. But all of the other classes entries were just too purposeful to ignore and we have banked their ideas to use in the near future! We intend to donate a crafted book box to a children’s sensory garden at the Queen’s Medical Centre Hospital and design a positivity snake inviting other schools to add to it to spread kindness.
We hope that you loved our Gratitude Garden idea and maybe you even added to it when we placed it in the reception at Rise Park Doctor’s Surgery. The aim of this idea, linked to International Gratitude Day, was to encourage patients to reflect on a single thing in their life that they were thankful for. We are hopeful that this positive thinking would encourage them to have a great day in store.
We were so proud of ourselves after cheering up two residents of Gedling Village Care Home. We worked hard to plan an exciting party to celebrate Betty and Edna’s 100th Birthday after seeing an advert about them being a little lonely on social media. They were overwhelmed with home made cakes, cosy blanket, pamper treats and hand crafted card and we were also so overwhelmed with how proud this left our team feeling too!
At Christmas, we spent some of our time crafting Christmas cards and decorations and went on a walk around the local estate to deliver them to the local shops, chemist, doctors and resident’s homes along with some tasty chocolate treats.
This next project was really exciting because we ended up getting a very special tour around the Police Headquarters. We thought it would be a great idea to make some sweet treats for the staff on the night shifts at Oxclose Police station to show how thankful we are for all of their efforts. We contacted them to arrange drop off an even got to take a look in the police cars!

For Valentine’s Day, we had a very special date with our community. The team all invited a loved one into school to show some love towards our community and to transform it into a cleaner more pleasant space for all. We managed to pick up a whole 8 bin bags and fill an entire wheelie bin of rubbish!

I think that you will all agree that we have already achieved great things and the staff at so proud of the ideas that they have planned independently. As always, if you have any ideas about how we could support an area of the community then please get in touch. Keep a look out on our Twitter feed for an updated view on all of our latest plans.
Here is a letter from the school council which informs you of what their plans are and how they have consulted with the children as to where they want to spend some of the Summer Fayre money. Please see link below.
