During our Careers Theme Week, EYFS explored different attributes that are needed for different job roles and matched them up. They then looked at the similarities these had to their own attributes and discussed what job role they could complete when they were older.

In KS1, the children explored the attributes and skills that they have and linked these to our Steps to Success. They then explored why certain jobs need specific attributes and discussed examples of these in their everyday lives. Finally, they wrote about what job they might want when they grow up and what skills they would need to develop in order to have this job.

In Lower Key Stage 2, the children built upon the work being completed in KS1 by exploring their own strengths linked to different types of jobs and began to link this to their school work: exploring what areas each job fits into such as STEM, arts etc. They then explored how they could improve themselves at school to work towards their chosen career.

In Upper Key Stage 2, the children explored job roles in more detail and specifically researched what types of skills, attributes, experience and qualities different jobs need. They even got to speak to some adults who had taken different pathways into their professions, for example, university and apprenticeships. The children in Year 5 then created job adverts for their chosen jobs and the children in Year 6 wrote CVs to apply for a job role they might want when they are older.
