We are incredibly proud of our school’s ethos to language learning at Rise Park Primary and Nursery School. We believe language learning underpins the whole school curriculum and that, through learning languages, every child has the opportunity to develop enthusiasm about and curiosity for the world in which they live.
In addition to celebrating the many languages spoken within our school community, all pupils in Key Stage Two learn Spanish as an additional language as part of their curriculum entitlement. We believe learning Spanish plays a key role in supporting our children as they develop their Knowledge of the World and their understanding of the Diversity of other countries and cultures because of its importance as a global language; a fact which is supported by our teaching of world Spanish within the curriculum and linked to the naming of our classes after Spanish-speaking countries. Spanish is a communicative discipline, and we want to provide children with an opportunity to experience Spanish language and culture through authentic materials and through the perspectives of those who speak it and live in the countries where it is spoken.
Additionally, through teaching phonemic awareness, grammatical skills and vocabulary that can be revisited in a variety of ways through a Rise Parker’s learning journey with us, we aim to inspire curiosity, confidence and self-efficacy and support our children’s identities as global citizens in an ever-changing world.
