Designing with purpose, making with pride – steps to success at every stage.

At Rise Park, our Design and Technology curriculum inspires children to be creative, curious, and confident problem-solvers. Children design, make and evaluate products with a clear purpose, building essential skills they can use in the wider world.

Our Design and Technology curriculum encompasses the objectives outlined in the National Curriculum.

  1. Designing
  2. Making
  3. Evaluating
  4. Technical Knowledge
  5. Cooking and Nutrition

DT Progression Document

We link Design and Technology learning to real-life contexts and the children’s current topics wherever possible, making lessons engaging and meaningful. Children begin to see how Design and Technology connects with other subjects such as Maths, Science, Art and Computing. To ensure that children apply their knowledge and understanding we give them the opportunity to develop their ideas independently and as part of a group.

As part of our commitment to a sustainable future, we encourage thoughtful design and consideration of materials, helping children understand the environmental impact of their choices.

Our school uses Widgit to support all children, including those with SEND, improve their understanding of key vocabularyHave a look at some of the word mats we use during the Autumn term.  In addition, we provide adapted equipment, such as scissors, writing boards and pencil grips, to further support children’s learning.

We enhance the curriculum through trips, extra-curricular activities and themed weeks. So far, these have included a year group trip to Tesco, designing and making Easter gardens as part of a homework project, a theme week where various projects took place including making bird houses and a knitting club.
