Music at Our School

Music plays a vibrant and valued role in our school curriculum at Rise Park. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore, enjoy, and express themselves through music, and we are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of music in all our pupils. Whether performing, composing, or simply enjoying music together, we see music as a powerful tool for learning, growth, and self-expression.

Through a broad and balanced music curriculum, children develop their skills in listening, performing, composing, and appraising. Lessons are designed to be active, inclusive, and enjoyable, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and confidence.

We aim to make music accessible to all learners, fostering not only technical ability but also a sense of joy and connection. Music supports children’s emotional well-being, enhances their cultural awareness, and strengthens our sense of school community.

Our Music curriculum offers:

The opportunity for every child in Year 4 to learn a musical instrument through expert tuition from the Nottingham Music Hub. This includes opportunities to sing, play an instrument, and explore a wide range of musical styles and traditions through learning to play the guitar.

Regular class music lessons in Years 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 that build key skills in rhythm, pitch, notation, and musical expression through the Kapow music progression scheme. All pupils learn technical aspects of music through the use of glockenspiels.

The chance to perform in assemblies, concerts, and school events. This includes singing assemblies and performances during our Christmas Carol concert, the KS1 Nativity and the KS2 Summer Production.

Access to extra-curricular enrichment opportunities such as the school choir and additional music instrumental tuition led by external music providers with the ukulele, guitar, drumming and Rock Steady lessons offered weekly.
