Welcome to our curriculum page. We are extremely proud of the curriculum that we offer at Rise Park and here you will find the knowledge and skills that we expect children to know and to able to use during their Rise Park journey and at the next stage of their learning. The teachers use interesting and relevant themes combined with a wide range of reading materials to engage children and maximise learning for all. This well-planned curriculum is complimented by an exciting variety of visitors and trips, including residential visits for years 2, 4 and 6. Our curriculum is further enriched through the wide range of after-school club provision and sporting competitions, led by the sport’s specialist. All of the children have the opportunity to learn Spanish through the expert delivery from our SLE. By the time the children leave for secondary school, they have developed a thirst for learning, determination to succeed and respect for each other.

Maths is taught according to the White Rose Scheme and Rainbow Grammar is used to support our teaching of English. Whole Class Reading and the Pearl Phonics programme is used to support phonics teaching and reading.

Through our commitment to strive for the very best for our children, we are continuously reviewing our curriculum, working with staff, governors, children and parents to create a curriculum that matches our ambitions for every child whilst complimenting the vision and aims of our community.

We believe in the importance of recognising and celebrating children’s achievements. Each child has a record of achievement where exceptional achievements and pieces of work are kept. These are shared at Parents’ Evenings and taken home at the end of Key Stage One and Key Stage Two as a keepsake of their success.  The children’s achievements are recognised and celebrated through certificates and our “Celebrations Assembly” each Friday afternoon.

The school firmly believes that the needs of individual children should be catered for, always taking into account every child.  Every effort is made to give pupils opportunities first-hand experiences and active learning. Account is taken of the interests and particular talents of the children.  The Governors are linked to subject areas together with areas of school improvement and work closely with the staff in the implementation and monitoring of the curriculum.

Our OFSTED report in January 2022 stated:

‘Pupils are proud to be ‘Rise Parkers’. They are happy and enjoy coming to school. Each morning, staff greet all pupils warmly and show great care towards them. Pupils get on well with each other. They celebrate each other’s achievements on their ‘Wall of Wonder’.’

‘Staff have the highest expectations of all pupils. They support pupils to be the best they can be in everything they do. Classrooms are interesting and enjoyable places in which to learn.’

‘Leaders have identified the skills and knowledge they want pupils to learn. They have considered the order in which pupils will acquire knowledge in many subjects. For example, in languages, leaders have identified the key vocabulary pupils will learn in each year group. Teachers are clear about the knowledge that is to be taught. Teachers ensure that pupils revisit their previous learning so that they are able to consolidate what they already know. This means that pupils know and remember more.’

‘Leaders help teachers to identify the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) accurately. Pupils with SEND study the full range of subjects. Some pupils access ‘The Nest’. The use of this provision helps to ensure that pupils’ social
and emotional needs are met.’
