Spanish and Colombian School Link

Thanks to our links at Top Valley, the MFL department kindly arranged for Year 6 children from Rise Park and Robin Hood to interview Spanish students from their link school in Murcia, Spain who were visiting for the week. The afternoon was a great success with new friends made and the children enjoying practising their Spanish by asking and answering questions.

Rise Park Primary Carnival and ECO BAILE!

Our Rise Park Carnival saw every year group choose a theme for what makes them a 'RiseParker' - Year 6 had chickens, Year 5 Inspire to be Fit, Year 4 Commando Joe, Year 3 Being ECO friendly, Year 2 Butterflies and Maths Year 1 Healthy Living Reception Outdoor Play and Nursery Play! What a fantastic range of themes we had. We then finished our carnival parade with the whole school doing the ECO IDEAS BAILE!! We can't wait to see the Vallejistas doing the dance too!

ECO DANCE - ECO BAILE

Still image for this video
Our afterschool Bravo Club have been working incredibly hard with Señorita Simon and Señorita Watts to choreograph and perform our very own international ‘ECO BAILE’. Rise Park will be learning the dance and performing as a whole school during our carnival week! The video is also for the Vallejistas over at Manuel Mejia Vallejo to learn and perform. The dance is a celebration to link back to the Eco Week work we carried out in October 2014 with Walter and Astrid, as well as to celebrate and raise the awareness of both schools’ ECO-IDEAS projects over the year including rearing and looking after our chickens, developing raised beds to grow our own food and a range of recycling projects. Can you join the ECO-IDEAS team and do the ECO-DANCE?

Jake was very proud of the Tudor house he made from recycled materials. Here he explains how he was inspired by our Eco week in October and how he made it. ¡Muy bien!

Quiero ser ... I want to be ...

During Enterprise week in the Spring term, all the children at Rise Park created a self portrait representing what they would like to do when they are older. The children then wrote about this in their Spanish lessons to share with the children at the Colombian school. We also discussed what jobs the Colombian children might like to do when they are older and whether there were any jobs they would like to do in Colombia! Watch this space for the Colombian children's views! Click on the link below to go through to our join blog with the Colombian school to see artwork and Spanish writing from all the year groups!

We have had such a wonderful 2014 and 2015 with our Colombian link school already. Scroll below to see just some of the partnership activities Riseparkers (as the Colombian children have nicknamed us!) have worked on with the children from Manuel Mejia Vallejo.

The autumn term saw a whole school ECO week, which followed a competition for bringing in plastic bottles to use in our workshops, led by the Colombian teachers Walter and Astrid. The children worked on a range of Eco themed activities across the curriculum.

We also opened our new Hispanic library, celebrated with a fantastic rendition by our BRAVO afterschool club of Marc Antony's 'Vivir mi Vida' which became somewhat of a school anthem! Links below will also take you to the Colombian school's blog and the work they continue to do following our successful joint projects.

La huerta Vallejista - The Colombian school's vegetable garden before and after!

We are SO excited here at Rise Park. The Colombian school have updated their blog with the latest developments of their vegetable garden! The Colombian teachers were also so taken with our school chickens, they will be having six of their own as well as an orchid garden!! Watch this space for developments ...
