During Science Theme Week the whole school was involved in a rocket building competition. To begin with we all (Nursery - Year 6) went outside onto the Key Stage Two playground to watch Mr Shadbolt launch a rocket. The rocket fired due to a build up of air pressure, shooting it at least 75 feet into the sky!
We then followed this up by returning to the classrooms, in mixed age groups, to replicate a scaled down version of the rocket. We designed, built and fired the rockets, measuring the distance they travelled.
Some of the rockets failed to launch while others reached nearly 2 metres! The winning team was Mrs Kilburn's, whose rocket reached 170cm! The most important thing was that every child was involved in the experiment and we all had lots of fun!
